Abelia /əˈbiːliə/[1] is a genus of about 15-30 species and many hybrids in the honeysuckle family. A perennial shrub that grows quickly during the spring and summer months. It produces multiple clusters of flowers and dark green foliage from multiple stems. A low growing shrub that reaches its mature height at 6 feet. Hardiness zones are 7 to 9. Abelia can grow up to 10 feet in height in ideal conditons. Observe the plant for any damage or dead canes removing them with clippers or loppers and discard. This will make the bush more dense and more blooms the following year.

Most species of the abelia shrub have slightly arching branches with a dense bushy growth and small leaves that are glossy. To get the best growth and maximum bloom, make sure to plant the abelia in full sun to part shade. If you plant it in to much shade the foliage density will decrease. It thrives in a moist acidic soil and once it is established this shrub is fairly drought tolerant.

You may buy an abelia for the low price of $5.97 each 4 1/2 inch pot.
